200 Essentials

How does it work?

A collection of 200 books are selected to be read completely by the students from Class 1 to Class 8.

The time they complete Class 8, PakTurk students will have read the entire 200 books included in the primary and secondary segments of the 200 Essentials Reading Scheme. The collection of books include the world classics, Pakistan classics, biographies, history, fiction and children classics; all of which have carefully been selected keeping in view the national and cultural values of Pakistan.

The book collections are available at the PakTurk school libraries for students to get them issued. The books for Class 1 to Class 5 will be issued by the class teachers and the English language teachers will issue books to the students of Class 6 to Class 8. Once a student borrows a book from the collection, (s)he is to read it completely within 2 weeks. As the books will be turned in after reading, each student’s reading progress will be logged in the e-logbook software and the returned books will be issued to the students who have not read them yet.

The reading progress of the 200 Essentials will be followed by the E-Logbook, the software exclusively authored for this purpose.

E-logbook has the lists of all primary and secondary school students registered for the reading scheme and catalogs the book titles in the Collection. As the students return the finished books, class teachers will log each student’s progress into the software. With the 200 Essentials E-logbook, informing parents, students, and teachers about the reading updates will be just one click away.
70% of the books selected for the reading scheme are in English and the rest are in Urdu.

In order to complete this reading scheme at primary school level, each student from Class 1 to Class 5 will need to complete reading 20 books during a year. Students from Class 6 to Class 8 will need to read 33 books annually to complete the reading scheme at secondary level.
